Leamington Repair Cafe fixes 100th item

A HAMMER peg toy was the 100th item fixed at the Leamington Repair Cafe.

Since July a variety of items have been fixed and many saved from landfill thanks to the monthly event held in the Sydni Centre.

A carding machine – used to prepare wool for spinning – was among the most unusual items to be brought to the recent cafe.

Luckily a volunteer recognised the machine and was able to restore it to full working order.

A classic ‘Dualit’ six-slice toaster – salvaged as a PAT test failure 20 years ago – was also fixed during December’s cafe.

Other repairs included clothes, an antique tea caddy, a camel lighter with a broken neck and a garden table – fixed using recycled wood.

The next cafe will be on January 12, from 11am to 2pm, at the Sydni Centre in Sydenham.

Search Repair Cafe Leamington on Facebook for details on the cafe and on volunteering.
