Leamington teachers to spend half term supporting refugees in Calais

Leamington Editorial 14th Feb, 2020   0

REFUGEES in the Calais ‘Jungle Camp’ will be given a helping hand from Leamington teachers – with the support of pupils.

Myton School teachers Emma Mort, Tracey Heggs, Jane Phillips, Julie Stevens, Fatima Santos, Sue Albon and Jane Millington are spending their half term break supporting refugee charity Care4Calais.

And pupils from the school will be supporting them on the way, after collecting items to donate to the refugees, including clothes, toiletries and more than 100 pairs of socks.

The teachers will travel to Calais on Saturday (February 22) and spend two days working in the charity’s warehouse, before travelling to the ‘Jungle Camp’ where they will distribute items to refugees.

Modern languages teacher Emma Mort said: “Thank you to all those Myton families who have contributed to our collection. These items will make a big difference to people who are living in the open in extraordinarily harsh conditions.”
