Leamington to be transformed into giant Cluedo board

WOULD-BE Sherlocks are being urged to test their detective skills around the streets of Leamington.

Following on from the huge success of the likes Pokemon Go and locked room games the Warwickshire Towns Network and BID Leamington are inviting amateur sleuths to become a ‘consulting detective’ when the town centre is turned into a giant Cluedo board for the day.

To solve Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters, players will follow clues, question witnesses and solve puzzles as they investigate the mystery of a vanishing professor on Saturday April 1.

Creator Stephen Blackwell said: “The only way that we could genuinely replicate the feel of an investigation was to actually transform the centre by hiding the game throughout it and making the whole area part of it.

“That included coordinating with over a dozen buildings, shops and attractions and roping in some brave local actors and volunteers. We’ve tried to create something full of adventure, mystery and, most importantly, fun.”

While searching for Professor Macclesborugh, the academic who was researching the towns’ hidden subterranean areas, players will find themselves caught up in a web of intrigue involving a thousand year-old legend, a mythical ancient treasure, an almost supernatural power and a shadowy cult at the heart of the town.

Organisers promise the story culminates into satisfying finale with a dastardly twist.

The game itself will take about 2-3 hours to play but will be running continuously throughout the day so players can stop and start whenever they choose.

Participants are advised to play in teams of two to six to fully enjoy the experience although there is no limit on numbers. Families are also being encouraged to play with free entry for under 12s and a dedicated mini-mystery game for them to play concurrently.

Stephanie Kerr, director of BID Leamington, said “It will be great to see families and teams of super sleuths cracking clues to solve the mystery in Leamington’s town centre.

“This integrated adventure trail should be a lot of fun and participants will be able to get fully immersed using the free Wi-Fi we now have on the Parade.”

When participants arrive, they will receive a copy of the casefile along with a map and ‘consulting detective’ badge to identify them as they try to solve the case.

Tickets cost £12 each (accompanied under 12s free). Also on offer is a ‘£2 off discount code’ for every advanced adult ticket purchased. Visit: http://www.royal-leamington-spa.co.uk/mystery-of-the-star-eaters/ for full details.
