Leisure staff cycled to 'Paris' for charity

LEISURE centre staff have gone the distance for a mental health charity.

Staff at Southam Leisure Centre kick-started a pledge to raise thousands for Mind, by cycling the distance of the Tour De France.

Everyone Active employees raised more than £300 following the 3540km journey which began with a spin-a-thon over six back to back spin classes.

After painstaking hours of continuous pedalling, the group reached ‘Paris’ in just under two weeks, smashing their original fundraising target of £250.

Manager Lloyd Barraclough said: “It is our goal to encourage the local community to be more active. I am delighted our members and colleagues have raised such a fantastic amount while staying active.

“We are proud to be working with Mind as our chosen charity partner. They carry out lots of great work and are passionate about raising awareness of mental health.

“We will be hosting a number of fundraising events over the next year to help us to reach our target £1,000.”

Physical activity is proven to ease feelings of stress and reduce the risk of depression.

And Everyone Active and Mind hope their partership will encourage more people to engage with physical activity to improve mental wellbeing.
