FIRST aiders have scooped an award recognising their life-saving work.
Mike and Barbara Cornes of Warwick Ambulance Association received the meritorious service award from the Rotary Club of Warwick.
The pair learned first aid 28 years ago after a family emergency when they did not know what to do.
They then joined the Warwick Ambulance Association as volunteers, providing first aid cover and training courses for local people. Mike is now chairman of the charity.
The association – which is based on Emscote Road – regularly provides cover for the Pancake Races, Bonfire Night, and Carols at the Castle and most recently for the Riding for Disabled Championships.
Mike – who also fostered children with wife Barbara – said: “The disabled riding championships were inspirational. As volunteers we get back a sense of satisfaction when giving our time to help others.”
