A LORRY driver was killed in a crash near Wellesbourne on Tuesday afternoon (April 1).

The lorry, which was carrying paper for recycling, was travelling in the direction of Wellesbourne near to Red Hill Wood around 3.25pm when the driver lost control and the lorry turned on its side, left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

Medics, together with Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were quickly on the scene, but were unable to save the driver, who has not yet been named.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a lorry that had left the road and come to rest on its side in a copse of trees.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A429 between Wellesbourne and Ettington, in either direction.

Anyone with information is asked to call Daniel Hicks in the Operational Police Unit at Rugby on 101.
