Man dies following fire at flat in Warwick

A MAN has died following a fire at a flat in Warwick yesterday (Wednesday May 4) evening.

The man, who is believed to be in his 60s, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the fire in Friars Street, which broke out at around 6.30pm.

The man’s next of kin has been informed. Police are now awaiting formal identification.

Thirty people were evacuated from the block while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Another man who was taken to hospital has since been discharged.

Insp Simon Ryan of Warwickshire Police said: “This was a terrible incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased. Enquiries continue but at this time we don’t believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Anyone with information which could help police with their enquiries is asked to call 101 quoting incident 301 of May 4.
