Matt Western wins Warwick & Leamington seat for Labour

MATT Western has won the Warwick & Leamington seat for Labour.

Mr Western overturned Conservative Chris White’s 6,000 majority to take the seat by 1,200 votes.

Mr Western, a Warwickshire county councillor, received 25, 227 votes; Mr White 24,021; Lib-Dem Nick Soloman 2,810; the Green’s Jonathan Chilvers 1,198, and UKIP’s Bob Dhillon 799.

Mr Western tweeted “1206 seat majority! 7.6% swing! “Astonishing” – 68 on target list!!”




Turnout was 72.8 per cent, which was 2.1 per cent higher than 2015.

Mr White had held the seat for the Tories for seven years after beating Labour’s James Plaskitt in 2010.


During the campaign Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn joined Mr Western on the steps of Leamington Town Hall.
