Migrants put Kenilworth on the map

MIGRANTS helped put Kenilworth on the map at the weekend.

Nearly 200 residents from across the town came together in Talisman Square on Saturday (February 18) to mark ‘One Day Without Us’ – a nationwide celebration of the contribution migrants make.

People marked on a map where they and their ancestors had come from – and countries including Brazil, India, South Africa, Germany, Spain, Italy and France all featured.

Event spokeswoman Claire Stern told the Observer: “We had a team of 15 volunteers – half migrants and half British-born – running a ‘when did you move to Kenilworth’ timeline activity to show we are all migrants really and a map our connections to the world activity.

“We talked to about 200 people on the day and we had most of Europe covered on our map. “

One of those who attended the event wrote on the map: “I came here as a researcher at Warwick University, I since have had two children who feel as English as they feel German.”
