Musician urges men to be aware of testicular cancer

A MUSICIAN from Leamington is stressing the importance of checking for lumps after he received an early diagnosis for testicular cancer.

Adam White, who is a member of alternative rock band Evade Escape, developed an ache in his testicles before discovering a lump.

And after a ‘horrifying’ spell of uncertainty and waiting he was diagnosed and booked in for a biopsy.

The 31-year-old said: “The worst part for myself and my partner was when we first found the lump and we didn’t know what it was. The uncertainty and the waiting was absolutely horrific. Unfortunately mine was quite complicated because they couldn’t quite figure out what it was until I had a biopsy done on my testicle so it took a bit longer for them to say it was actually cancer. But they where very confident before I went into surgery for the biopsy.

“The relief of being diagnosed in time was utterly fantastic.”

Adam had been on a health kick before his diagnosis through cycling and running and said it was lucky he developed an ache which prompted him to check his testicles.

He has posted a video on social media, talking about his ordeal, urging men to make checking a routine and not to be afraid to air concerns.

He added: “When I was in hospital the doctors said to me one of the best things I could do was raise awareness of this cancer as a lot of men are either not educated on it well enough or are too embarrassed to ask anyone any questions. So I plan on being an open book.

“If anyone would like to get in touch with me through social media to ask any questions they are more than welcome.”

He is also fund-raising for Cancer Research and money generated from the band’s new single Coastline – available on streaming services – will go towards the charity.

He added: “Being in a band is like being in a family, this is something they went through as much as I did.”

Adam has also set up a Just Giving page and is planning to raise further funds through sponsored runs and bike rides.
