Myton Hospices Light up a Life event opens up to Coventry and Warwickshire residents as service goes virtual

Leamington Editorial 13th Nov, 2020   0

THE MYTON Hospices will be running its annual Light up a Life services a little differently this year.

Every December those who have lost a loved one can donate to the charity to have them mentioned in one of the Light up a Life ceremonies. They will also have a tag with their name on it placed on the charity’s Christmas tree.

This year’s service will be held virtually, and will be opened up to everyone across Coventry and Warwickshire who would like to dedicate a light in memory of someone they have lost.

The service, led by Simon Betteridge, Lead Chaplain at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, and joined by staff from The Myton Hospices, will begin at 5pm and will give everyone a chance to pause at the same time and remember loved ones.

Subject to government guidance, people are also welcome to visit the Christmas trees at the hospice’s three sites in Warwick, Rugby and Coventry, over the festive period for their own moment of reflection.

Spokesperson Alex Anderson said: “We are incredibly sad that we can’t all come together at our hospice sites but the safety of our supporters and families is paramount and by bringing it online we hope that we can still create a feeling of togetherness for everyone taking part.

“2020 has been an extremely challenging year that has seen many of us lose loved ones in devastating circumstances, without support from those around us and without being able to hold funerals and celebrations of life in the traditional way.

“It has also led to many feeling isolated at home, and perhaps emphasised a loss from time gone by. Not being able to hold a family members hand, or to give them a much needed hug, has been one of the biggest challenges Myton nurses have faced this year. We want to invite everyone reading this to join together for a moment of reflection, peace and remembrance.”

The charity has thanked Wilf Smith and Son which has sponsored this year’s Light up a Life service.

The deadline to have loved ones’ names in the printed order of service is Friday 13th November or Friday December 4 to appear on screen on the evening.
