IT WAS as if a spell had been cast at Myton School when more than 100 pupils auditioned for their latest theatre production.
The drama department at the school in Warwick were quick to adapt the Shakespearean comedy ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ when young thespians flocked for the roles.
Head of drama, Claire Stringer said: ““We were overwhelmed by the number of students who wanted to take part so we expanded the cast list to include extra characters, such as Pick, a sidekick for Puck, and a whole gang for him to hang out with.
“We had seven categories of fairies and, because it was set in the 1970s, we were able to have crowds of hippies and punks.”
The bumper cast performed to a full house and were praised for the ‘most enjoyable production’ some audience members had seen at the school.
Head teacher Andy Perry added: “I’m incredibly proud of the staff for their skill in adapting the play to include everyone, and of so many of our students for getting involved and showing how well we do performing arts at Myton. Well done to all of you!”
