Myton School in Warwick remains closed for another day following email threat

PUPILS at Myton School in Warwick remain at home today (Tuesday) after having to be evacuated the day before due to a threatening email.

All of the students at the school were evacuated out of the building and police were called on Monday morning (May 20).

West Midlands Ambulance Service was also called to the scene but medics were then told to stand down.

Parents were kept in the dark for several hours about what was going on at the school in Myton Road and pupils in year 11 had to be evacuated out of their GCSE exams.

The school reported having received a “vague threat” via email against the school and said they had evacuated all the pupils as a precautionary measure.

A post on the school’s Facebook page read: “This morning we received a vague threat via email against our school. As always the first priority was the safety of students and staff, who were all evacuated from the buildings.

“We appreciate the communication was difficult at this time as we had such limited access to systems. Thank you very much for your prompt responses which allowed us to send Year 7 to 10 students home. We are working on a plan to get Year 11 and above students home as they were evacuated out of exams without their phones and other personal belongings.

“Throughout this incident the children have been amazing and Mr Perry would like to thank every single one of them for acting so responsibly in a very trying situation. The Police Chief inspector has said thank you for your patience and support. He also thanks staff and students for their very prompt responses.”

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police confirmed the school had been evacuated due to a threat, adding all the students were “out of the building and safe”.

Myton Road was closed for the rest of the day and police remained at the site during the evening.

The school later reported via Facebook that all students were safe at home with their families.

The decision was made to keep the school closed on Tuesday (May 21) to all students apart from those sitting exams.

The exact details of the threat have not yet been confirmed.
