NEARLY £6,000 has been raised in memory of a ‘much-loved’ friend and Leamington Brakes coach.

Nick Morgan passed away in his sleep on Christmas morning leaving members of the football community devastated.

The 40-year-old is survived by his 10-year-old son Lewis, who played on the under 10s team his dad coached.

A fund-raising page was set up by fellow coach Matt Turner to buy a memorial bench where family, friends and players could pay their respects – and it has surpassed its £1,000 target, seeing nearly £6,000 raised.

Matt says he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response and the family are now deciding what to do with the rest of the money, which will probably go into a trust fund for Nick’s son.

Matt said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response and are speaking with family about plans along with the memorial bench.

“Nick loved football, he spent many evenings every week and most of his weekends helping to coach Lewis, and the boys under 10s team.

“He loved being part of our Brakes community and Leamington FC was a big part of his life.

“We are all deeply saddened and shocked by the news of Nicks sudden and unexpected passing and our thoughts are with Lewis and all of Nick’s family.

“Many people asked whether they are able to donate towards a memorial as a celebration of Nicks life, and as a way to be able to remember Nick.

“The memorial bench will be in the local area, somewhere close to the Leamington stadium, this will be somewhere that Lewis will be able to visit to remember his Dad.”
