A NEW all-weather pitch has been completed at Racing Club Warwick.

The 3G artificial, weather resistant turf replaces the former grass pitch at the Hampton Road ground, which was prone to flooding.

It is part of an 18-month project to upgrade the Warwick District Council-owned venue.

The scheme has been managed through a partnership between the council, Racing Club Warwick and the Football Foundation. In addition to £150k from the district council and a grant Football Foundation, the project has received funding from the King Henry VIII Charitable Trust and Warwick Town Council.

Council culture spokesman coun Jan Matecki said: “After such a difficult year, it’s rewarding to know the long held plans for these wonderful new facilities have now become a reality for Racing Club Warwick. The new pitch, will provide a fitting home for the club and become a valuable asset for the whole community. This will give even more local people the opportunity to take part in sporting activity throughout the year without weather or access restrictions.”

Racing Club Warwick chairman Gary Vella added: “The new 3G pitch will be a real community facility, enabling the club to link in with other junior clubs and partners from within the local area to provide a venue that is accessible for all. We now have a top quality playing surface for our first team, every day of the week. We can also host all of our training and games, expand the academy and offer facilities to other junior sides in the area alongside our plans for women’s, girls and disability football.”
