New Orleans jazz birthday bash to raise the roof for charity

AN ANNUAL birthday bash is set to raise the roof for charity.

For the past 34 years Mike Porter from Wasperton has celebrated his birthday with a New Orlean’s-style jazz concert.

And this year will be no different when regular band the Tierra Buena perform at St Gregory’s Village Church in Offchurch – where Mike used to be church warden.

The 82-year-old retired bank manager has raised some £20,000 for charity Christian Aid over the years, and this year’s concert is on Friday May 17 – his 83rd birthday.

The event starts at 8pm and tickets cost £7.50 including wine and nibbles. All proceeds go to Christian Aid.

Tickets will be available on the door.
