No consultation into late night policing levies

Leamington Editorial 25th Nov, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

A CONSULTATION into late-night policing levies will not be carried out in the immediate future.

Warwick District Council was looking at the possibility of introducing a levy to help cover the costs of policing and other crime prevention measures in the late night and early hours of the morning.

If introduced, the levy would have been adopted across the district and paid by pubs and other drinking establishments that stay open past midnight although the likes of hotels, theatres, cinemas and community could have been exempt.

Long-time licensee Chris Donnachie branded the idea ‘unfair’ – arguing policing was already covered within many pub and club owners’ business rates.

And members of the authority voted against conducting a formal consultation when the proposal was discussed at a recent full council meeting.
