Oliver has smile back on face after thieves steal toys he was selling to raise money for NHS

OLIVER Bucholz has a smile back on his face and his faith in humanity restored.

Community spirit has not been lacking during the pandemic but it has not reached heartless thieves in a Warwickshire village.

Ten-year-old Oliver decided to raise money for NHS charities by holding a toy sale in the front garden of his mum’s Stockton home.

But when he popped off for his lunch, he returned to not only find his toys had been stolen, but also the £4 he had already raised.

Furloughed Observer photographer Jon Mullis was touched by Oliver’s plight and immediately set up a GoFundMe page to help the youngster’s fund-raising drive.

The story went up on the Observer’s various websites and readers have helped push the fund-raising total over £350.

Mum Su thanked everyone who had contributed.

“On behalf of myself and Oliver I’d like to thank all who donated, to Jon Mullis for having a kind heart and setting up the GoFundMe page, and to all the NHS and key workers alike.

“Oliver wanted to raise money for the NHS charity as his granddad has recently been ill in hospital and he wanted to thank all of the staff who cared so well for him.

” Oliver was annoyed and upset with himself as he felt he should have not left the items outside with no-one being there.

“But he was fine after I explained to him that he was doing a good thing and someone else had done wrong.”
