Oz Clarke and Armonico Consort drop in for a sing-song

RESIDENTS at care homes across Warwickshire were delighted when wine writer and broadcaster Oz Clarke and musicians from Armonico Consort stopped off to entertain them with a mini concert.

The team visited six care homes as part of their charity Great Bike Adventure around the county.

The 130-mile tour, which saw the musicians climb the height of Mount Vesuvius, is raising money to support the Warwick Memory Singers – Armonico Consort’s new community choir for people living with dementia, and their carers.

So far, the team has raised £5,000 but is hoping to double this to raise vital funds for the choir which launched this month.

Residents sang, clapped and joined in with percussion instruments as the musicians entertained with a wide range of music, from Somewhere Over the Rainbow, to solo violin and rousing Baroque music.

“It is like heaven has come down to us here”, said one resident, while another said “it was wonderful to see everybody enjoying the songs”.

Singing is scientifically proven to bring mental health and well-being benefits, especially for people living with dementia, where it also helps reconnect memory and alleviate anxiety.
