Paralympian praises Citizens Advice services

PARALYMPIC gold medalist Megan Giglia has spoken of the part played by Citizen’s Advice in her success.

Megan spoke at the AGM where it was announced the Citizens Advice Bureaus for Stratford and Warwick had agreed to join their services to form the new Citizens Advice South Warwickshire. The merger will leave the charity better placed to sustain and develop their services for vulnerable people in the future.

Megan told the AGM how help from Citizens Advice had been a massive part of her journey since suffering a stroke and brain haemorrhage three years ago.

She went from sleeping on a kitchen worktop in an empty flat in Stratford to becoming the first British gold medal winner on the opening day of the Rio Paralympics in the cycling.

Now firmly focused on preparing to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, she committed to continue to support Citizens Advice however busy she was.

Speaking of the merger, Yvonne Hunter, chair of trustees of Stratford and District Citizens Advice, said: “This is a friendly merger that will help us secure the future of high quality Citizens Advice services locally. Face to face services will continue to be provided in Stratford as well as other locations in the district and by phone.

“Merging our two services will also give us the opportunity to develop much needed new services in the future, so we can continue our proud tradition of assisting all those local people who need our help.”

The AGM heard Stratford CAB had helped some 5,400 people over the past year – either face to face, by phone, email or webchat.
