Paramedics brave shave to fund-raise for poorly youngster

Leamington Editorial 27th Aug, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

PARAMEDICS had a hair-raising experience when they braved the shave to raise money for a poorly youngster.

Ian Inglesant, Paul Rowlands and Rich Prior had their heads shaved at the West Midlands Ambulance Service hub in Warwick.

But it wasn’t the hot weather which led the trio to have their locks shaved off – they are raising money to send nine-year-old Alexander Goodwin to Disney in Florida.

The youngster from Leicestershire was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma last month – a rare type of bone cancer which had left him needing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

A fund-raising drive is currently underway to send brave Alex on a dream holiday to Florida, and the paramedics’ efforts have so far raised £1,200 for the pot.

Paramedic Ian, who hails from Warwick, said: “It is a fantastic cause to raise money for and if we can help send Alex to Disney World then it will be worth losing every lock of hair. I’m actually quite surprised that it doesn’t look too bad to be honest.

“We’ve raised a superb amount already which we are really pleased with. If we can push it any higher, then all the better.”

The ambulance service has worked hard to raise awareness about Alex’x plight, sharing information and asking people to follow the youngster on social media.

Paul, who also had his head shaved, said: “We were more than happy to do this for Alex to try and help raise some money for him.

“I’d urge everyone throughout the ambulance service and beyond to do their bit now and help raise some more money for an extremely brave young boy.”
