Pizzeria hit by pandemic thrives after developing its business

A PIZZERIA hit by the pandemic is thriving after developing its business.

Leamington-based Birtelli’s remained open during the first lockdown, and now the second, but was hit by the loss of business trade.

So owners, brothers Jim and Jag Biryah along with executive chef, Michellin-starred Paul Foster, took the opportunity to branch out and provide home-bake pizza kits.

And the make-your-own kits have gone from strength to strength and are now in demand across the country.

They include to students in lockdown at Manchester University, as gifts from employers to staff in London and closer to home where home kits were given to a charity event in Leamington for participants to enjoy virtually.

Jim – who opened the restaurant in 2017 – told the Observer: “Like many in the hospitality industry, Birtelli’s was impacted by the loss of business trade, particularly office based workers, as a result we pivoted our business model during lockdown offering pizza kits alongside our takeaway menu, delivering the kits to local residents, and even supplying entire teams of remote workers and virtual events.

“As the kits proved to be a huge success throughout Warwickshire and the Cotswolds, they are excited to now be able to offer next day delivery to the whole of the UK.”
