Plans to build care home scrapped to make way for more houses

Leamington Editorial 3rd Dec, 2016   0

PLANS to build a care home on a housing development site in Bishops Itchington have been scrapped to make way for an extra 80 homes.

The former Harbury Cement Works site was set to become the site for 200 homes, a doctor’s surgery, nature reserve, business space and 40-bed care home.

But developers St Francis Group say there was no demand for a care home or business space in the area, and instead have received permission to build the extra 80 homes.

In a report submitted to Stratford District Council the developers said: “Despite intensive marketing for both the care home and employment land uses, we have been unable to identify any material interest in the commercial parts of the development. With no demonstrable market demand for either the care home or employment uses, we proposed this part of the site be released for additional residential development.”

The council approved the extra homes but say there must also be room for a play area.
