Police appeal following armed robbery

A BALACLAVA-CLAD robber armed with a hammer fled with cash after threatening staff at a Leamington convenience store.

The man, who was also thought to have a knife, targeted McColls in Stanley Court in Sydenham on Saturday at around 9.15pm.

The robber fled the scene in a car believed to be a purple Ford Fiesta.

He is described as stocky and around 5’7″ tall. He wore a black balaclava, a dark jacket with the hood up, grey tracksuit bottoms, light coloured trainers, white gloves, and was carrying a drawstring shoulder bag with neon green strings.

Det Con Sara Skinner said: “Thankfully nobody was injured during this incident, but the staff were understandably left shaken.

“We would therefore like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen the offender leaving the scene or who may have seen a purple Ford Fiesta in the area around the time of the incident.

“We would particularly like to speak to two people who we believe may have been in the shop at the time of the incident as they may have vital information that could assist us with our investigation.

“We would also like to speak to two people we believe were parked close to the shop in a black Audi as they too could help us with our enquiries.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
