Police barge in for canal drugs swoop

A NARROWBOAT in Leamington was among the targets of a police swoop in the fight against drugs.

Four warrants were executed in Leamington, Stratford and Alcester as part of the on-going Operation Monkstone.

A large quantity of what was believed to be cannabis was seized from a property in Waterside Court on Clapham Terrace in Leamington, while a small bag of powder thought to be cocaine was also seized from a barge on the Grand Union Canal moored up near Clemens Street.

A 31 year-old woman from Leamington was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, before later being released on bail until May.




And a 37 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug possession following police operations around Baxter Court in Leamington. He was released after being cautioned.

Insp Faz Chishty said: “All the action we have taken this week has been in response to information provided by members of the public. The public are our eyes and ears in the community and play a vital role in helping us to combat crime.


“Every single piece of information provide by the public is acted upon. While we can’t always respond directly to every report, all appropriate information provided helps us to develop our policing plans and target individuals and problem areas.

“Another aim of this week has been to get a better picture of the issues in our local communities and this will help us to develop plans to tackle crime.”
