POLICE are still trying to identify a man found dead in suspicious circumstances in Leamington on Friday.

Officers were called shortly before 6.25am to a report of a body seen in the River Leam in Jephson Gardens, close to Willes Road.

The cause of death is not yet known but the death is currently being treated as suspicious. Jephson Gadens was closed to the public at the weekend and part of the riverside walk towards Newbold Comyn was also taped off.

Det Insp Teresa McKenna said: “We are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and to identify the man who sadly died, who did not have any form of identification on his person, just the set of keys pictured.

“The man is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, possibly even late 40s, of medium build, with blond hair or possibly dyed blond hair and blue eyes.

“His clothing consisted of a black puffer jacket with a hood, a navy blue long-sleeved England football t-shirt, black Lonsdale tracksuit bottoms and grey Hi-Tec ‘Exodus’ trainers.

“If you think you recognise the description of this man or know of someone who fits this description who you may not have been able to reach in the last couple of days, or you recognise the set of keys, I would urge you to get in touch.

“We would also really like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area between midnight and 6am and may have seen something or has dashcam footage.”

Anyone who recognises the description of the man and thinks they may know who he is, or has information that could assist with enquiries is urged to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 35 of 15 May.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
