POLICE are urging kind-hearted residents to support local charities instead of the homeless.
Officers say beggars are being ‘killed with kindness’ as they often use the money on drugs or alcohol.
A spokesman said: “Your well-meaning action could be causing more harm than good as often the money is used to fund drug or alcohol addiction.
“To truly help those in need please consider giving to local homeless organisations instead.
“They are all committed to helping provide assistance, shelter or longer term solutions.”
