AN ART fund-raising group in Warwickshire is celebrating its first anniversary.
Established in January 2020 to raise funds for art for the future, Art Friends Warwickshire has reported a successful first year of operation during which over 300 supporters generated more than £3,000 for local art projects.
Forced to move from live talks to online lectures, Art Friends Warwickshire has enjoyed large audiences on topics from post-impressionist painter Cézanne to graffiti in churches, with lecturers including leading art historians from the University of Warwick and the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Chairman Brian Phillips said: “We are most grateful to our members who backed us when the Art Fund’s fund-raising network came to an end. We recognised that there was still an appetite to learn about art, and our sociable events provide that opportunity, at the same time raising money.
“We are keen to identify Warwickshire art projects which could benefit from funding support and call upon organisations small or large to contact us. The last year has shown how much we need the stimulus of art and our supporters look forward to returning to our local galleries and meeting again with their art.”
