Pyjama party raises money and awareness of autism

PYJAMAS will be the dress code for World Autism Awareness Week.

Heart of England Mencap – the Warwickshire charity supporting people with learning disabilities – will host a ‘Pyjama Day and Coffee Morning’ at the charity’s day centre in Atherstone-on-Stour on Wednesday March 28 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The event at Church Green is open to members, families, staff and supporters to raise awareness and funds for those affected by autism.

Organised by the National Autistic Society, the week running until April 2 will see communities and organisations take part in activities to raise money and awareness for the condition which affects 700,000 people nationally.

Event organiser Katie Berry said: “Autism affects so many people, including many of the people we support, but while we’ve come a long way in raising awareness, there’s still more to be done. That’s why we want to support Autism Week and raise money to help the National Autistic Society to continue raising awareness and providing support – and it’s really important we enable our customers to show their support too.

“Everybody is welcome to come and join us – the more in their pyjamas the merrier.”
