A RABBIT vet nurse from Leamington has been named the best in her field.
Out of hundreds of applications and nominations from veterinary professionals across the UK, a judging panel of experts, veterinary professionals and rabbit specialists named Nicky Leech as Rabbit Vet Nurse of the Year in the Burgess Excel Vet Awards.
The nurse, who works at Vets4Pets in Leamington, will receive £500 and a trophy.
She said: “I cannot tell you how much this means to me. I have loved rabbits since before I was a veterinary nurse. They are the most beautiful, interesting and loving creatures I have ever met, and highly under rated and misunderstood both in and out of the veterinary profession.
“I am so honoured to have been named and nominated among others that have the same passion, and together I hope we can change the lives of rabbits for the better.”
Winners were judged criterias including their understanding of rabbits’ specific needs, the specialist rabbit facilities available in the practice, the provision of educational rabbit materials and the general support for rabbit owners.
Judge Dr Suzanne Moyes said: “Huge congratulations to Nicky for winning this award, which is testament to her hard work and determination to provide the very best of care for rabbits, not to mention her passion and knowledge to improve their wellbeing.”
