RACING is set to resume at Warwick Racecourse after a scare about equine flu.
All races across the country were called off until tomorrow (Wednesday February 13) after a six day shut down by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). This included the Gentlemen’s Day meeting at Warwick Racecourse.
It followed outbreaks of the disease in vaccinated horses at two training yards.
But on the advice of vets races are set to resume as scheduled, with strict biosecurity controls in place.
A spokesman for the BHA said: “Our approach since hearing about the first positive results has been based on accumulating as much information as we could so we could properly understand the risks of this virulent strain of flu spreading to more horses.
“Clearly, there is some risk associated with returning to racing. This risk has been assessed and – ensuring biosecurity measures are in place – the level of risk is viewed as acceptable.”
The fixtures which were set to be held at Warwick last weekend have instead been moved to Sandown Park on Friday (February 15) and Haydock Park on Saturday.
The next race at Warwick will be the ‘Fabulous Fiver Friday and Budbrooke Chase’ on Friday February 22.
