BICYCLES, shopping trolleys and much more was hauled out of the Grand Union Canal in Leamington during the latest clean-up.
Members of the Canal & River Trust (CRT) were joined on the canal, between Sydenham Road and Clemens Street bridges, by some 55 residents, scouts from the 1st Sydenham troop, and the Warwick University Ladies Hockey team.
Armed with grapple hooks, the day’s haul included railings, a microwave, an engine block, a sofa, a sewing machine, a child’s rocking horse, and a street sign for Clemens Street.
An attempt to retrieve a safe, owing to the weight, failed despite the efforts of eight volunteers. The location has been reported to CRT in the hope it can be lifted with the proper equipment.
