Residents encouraged to join fruit and vegetable growing scheme

Leamington Editorial 5th Jun, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

GREEN-FINGERED farmers are encouraging residents to join a fruit and vegetable growing scheme.

Based just outside Radford, Canalside Community Food grows produce, which is then delivered to more than 100 households in the area.

And they are hoping an open day this weekend will help attract some more subscribers to the scheme.

Set to take place at Leasowe Farm off the Southam Road from 10am onwards, visitors will have the chance to visit the growing fields and orchards on Sunday (June 7).

Tours will be held at 11.30am and 2.30pm while younger visitors will be able to enjoy the willow-woven tunnels and the wooden play equipment on site.

Those who sign up to the scheme will receive a share of the seasonal vegetable harvest throughout the year as well as fruit when it is in season.

Scheme administrator, Ali Jeffery, said: “People often tell us they drive past our gate every day and have always wondered what we do, so we think that opening the gates and showing people round is a great way for people to find out about how Canalside works and how people can get involved.”
