Roadworks begin today in Warwick town centre

WORKS to improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Warwick town centre will begin today (January 8).

Priory Road, from the Cape Road junction to St Johns, is set to closed until the end of February. Traffic will be diverted via Smith Street and The Butts which will be restricted to one-way southbound to ease traffic flow.

Improvements include the widening of footways to allow room for cyclists, road humps, raised junctions and speed cushions as part of a new 20mph speed limit, and to help pedestrians cross more safely.

Warwickshire County Council transport spokesman Coun Jeff Clarke said: “These works will improve the experience of travelling in and around Warwick town centre for pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers.

“The improvements to the town centre will create an environment that the people who live locally identified that they want during our consultation with them.”
