Rotary Club looking for new members to ensure survival

Leamington Editorial 16th Dec, 2018   0

WARWICK Rotary Club is looking for new blood.

The club – which organises events such as Carols at the Castle and the Thai Festival – has a membership of mostly people in their 70s and 80s.

And now they are calling for younger members to join their ranks and help them to continue staging community events which raise money for charity.

This year they will be donating to the Red Cross and Polio Fellowship along with giving grants – recent examples including donating £10,000 to Warwick Sea Scouts towards new jetties.

Annually the group raises some £30,000 towards local and international causes.

A spokeswoman said: “All these Rotary events make Warwick a richer community in which to live and the town not only benefits from the event but also from the money raised going to local good causes.

“To sustain these activities and continue giving grants Warwick Rotary Club needs new younger members as the current membership can no longer physically carry out the work necessary to stage such significant events.”

Currently the club has some 30 members who meet every Wednesday lunchtime at the Warwick Hilton but it says it is trying new strategies to try and enlist support. This includes creating the Friends of Warwick Rotary Club – who give time during the evenings and weekends when most events take place.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of a friend of the Rotary can email [email protected] to contact the club secretary.
