A ROYAL visitor officially opened a physiotherapy centre which could help those with neurological conditions learn how to walk again.

The Duke of Kent visited The Helen Ley Centre near Leamington to open its new suite, which staff say will help with rehabilitation and mobility.

The centre – which is run by charity Castel Froma Neuro Care – supports those with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease and brain injuries.

At Helen Ley and its other site, Lillington House, it helps around 300 people.

And the Duke saw some of the work carried out at the centre, after a musical performance by harpist Audrey Douglas accompanied by residents.

He also heard from those who use the centre and its facilities – which include a therapy kitchen and sensory room.

Chief executive Marie Bawden said: “This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work our staff do here on a daily basis at the Helen Ley Centre.

“We would like to thank His Royal Highness for visiting. it was an honour to show him round the centre and fantastic that he was able to officially open our new physiotherapy room.

“The new room will be transformative for care at Helen Ley with more opportunities for residents to use new, specialist equipment enabling them to improve mobility and re-learn skills such as standing.”
