RSC fans treated to rehearsal viewings for first time ever

BARD fans are being offered a chance to see behind the scenes of the latest Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production.

The company’s RSC’s Henry VI Part I: Open Rehearsal project will be streaming rehearsals online before a live broadcast of the final run-through on Wednesday June 23, at 7pm.

Rehearsals for the production began this week and will run to Friday June 18.

The daily activity, which begins at 10am, includes a 30 minute warm up involving voice technique and stage fighting skills.

From noon, for 90mins, online audiences are invited to join a live rehearsal session as the actors and directors put the show on its feet. This is followed at 6pm by a 30 minute post-rehearsal ‘Green Room Chat’ as the team reflects on the day, and answer audience questions about the process.

The three Henry VI plays were originally due to run in the Swan Theatre but were postponed due to the pandemic. This will now be the only opportunity for audiences to see Henry VI Part I as part of the RSC’s commitment to work through all of Shakespeare’s canon.
