Safer walking for villagers after new pathway opens in Lighthorne

A NEW pathway between Lighthorne village and the sports field is now officially open.

Kenilworth and Southam MP Sir Jeremy Wright was on hand – scissors at the ready – to officially open the new “permissive path” which villagers hope will offer a far safer way to get to the sports field.

Previously residents have had to risk walking along a narrow road with no verge, with cars passing by at up to 50mph.

But after much wrangling, Lighthorne Parish Council was able to secure funds of around £14,000 for an alternative pathway.

The construction cost was part funded through a grant from The Severn Trent Community Fund.

Parish councillors and residents gathered at the official opening ceremony where Sir Jeremy commented on the hard work that goes into initiatives, like this pathway, which improve facilities for the community.
