Seaside celebrated at Scarecrow Festival

A SCARECROW festival has captured imaginations in Lapworth.

Nearly 50 scarecrows posed along a popular village route in their finest beach-wear, inspired by the theme ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’.

Among many titles including Best Traditional, Children’s Choice and Most Imaginative, the top title Most Spectacular went to Squirt the Octopus which included a surprise water feature.

The charity festival in its twelfth year, attracted thousands of visitors who enjoyed live music, a gin bar, beer festival , craft stalls and children’s activities aplenty.

The event has raised more than £50,000 for local causes to date, and is supported by a number of local businesses, including The Boot at Lapworth, where the ‘after-crow’ party was held.

Organiser Rachael Easton said: “The Lapworth Scarecrow Festival has been going for well over a decade and the imagination and originality of the scarecrows gets better year on year.

“The theme this year, ‘Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside’, was family focused and fun and the locals did not disappoint with their incredibly creative scarecrows and the local friendly rivalry is infectious.

“We would like to thank everyone who came along to our event and made it the huge success it was. Every year our festival seems to get more popular and it’s great to be able to organise a fun weekend that raises money to fund a number of local causes in the area.”
