Second Thoughts kick off the year in Stratford with An Evening of Tom Stoppard

SECOND Thoughts’ first production of the year offers two plays for the price of one.

An Evening of Tom Stoppard brings together two of the playwright’s finest one-act plays, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy – whether they adore comedy or drama.

While the popular The Real Inspector Hound offers a humorous and intelligent twist of the traditional Christie-esque murder mysteries, the lesser-known A Separate Peace gives the evening a poignant reflection on isolation, which has even more gravity since the Covid lockdowns.

In The Real Inspector Hound, two theatre critics are watching a whodunnit before they unwittingly find themselves part of the action as they try to discover just who the murderer and the real Inspector Hound are.

In A Separate Peace, a man longing for peace and seclusion arrives at a nursing home hoping for a luxuriously easy existence- but can money alone buy him the slow-paced life he dreams about?

After the success of Entertaining Angels last July, Jo Knight is back with a cast of 11 including Steve Farr, Benjamin Keyser, Gill Hines, Charlotte Ledger, Catherine Jones, Simon Maris, Nick Le Mesurier, Tom Bruggenwirth, Rachel Alcock, Lynda Liddament and Lee Pound.

An Evening of Tom Stoppard runs from February 21 to February 24 at The Bear Pit, with performances starting at 7.30 pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30 pm.

Tickets can be booked at secondthoughts.org.uk/bookings, on 0333 666 3366 or on the door from one hour before the performance.
