LOCAL singer-songwriter Ellie Gowers is taking to the stage in Stratford as part of her UK tour, with songs inspired by home.
Ellie, from Warwick, is celebrating the release of her debut album ‘Dwelling by the Weir’ with gigs around the country and she will, appropriately, be stopping off not far from her hometown for a performance at Ryepiece Barn on November 18.
Taken from the old Saxon meaning of Ellie’s hometown, Warwick, ‘Dwelling by the Weir’ is a collection of songs inspired by the rich history that Warwickshire offers.
When 2020 restricted everyone to the confines of their homes and daily walks were a part of all of our regimes, Ellie took the opportunity to unearth all that was around her.
From equine self-pity to women navigating the waterways, ecological devastation to communities persevering and coming together, Ellie travelled to the sleepiest of hamlets and the busiest of market towns to paint a balanced picture of the county she had grown up in.
Ellie’s work references artists such as Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, and Laura Marling. Her songs, at times, are sensitive and tender, but are not without the fiery and darker discourse that have labelled Ellie as dynamic and one to watch.
