SOUTH Warwickshire branches of Santander have managed to escape its site closures.
The bank announced today it was set to close 140 sites due to ‘changes in how customers carry out their banking’.
But Leamington, Stratford and Rugby and its surrounding sites are among some of the 614 which will continue running by offering improved community services and technology.
Bosses decided to shut branches after the number of in store transactions dropped by 23 per cent. Meanwhile online banking for the company grew by 99 per cent.
Spokeswoman Susan Allen said: “The way our customers bank with us has changed dramatically in recent years, with more and more customers using online and mobile channels. As a result, we have had to take some very difficult decisions over our less visited branches, and those where we have other branches in close proximity.
“We continue to believe branches have a vital role to play and we will be refurbishing 100 of our branches over the next two years. We are confident that following these changes we will have the right branch network to serve our customers’ changing needs, and we expect the size of our network to remain stable for the foreseeable future.”
