South Warwickshire students raise cash for Guide Dogs

A NEW Guide Dog puppy could soon be hitting the streets thanks to the efforts of south Warwickshire students.

The band of seven fundraisers from Moreton Morrell and Leamington Colleges have so far raised £1,862.94 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Aimee McKinlay, Chelsea Harrison, Jo Brand, Karys Belfield, Callum Sheppard, Harry Robbins, Paige Franks, and lecturer Chrissi Margetts hope to raise enough cash to help fund the first year of training for a guide dog puppy.

And the students hosted a final fundraising event for the academic year as they continue to work towards their £5,000 target.

Animal behaviour student Jo Brand and canine therapy student Chelsea Harrison headed to Leamington College’s hair salon for a sponsored haircut.

The sponsored haircut also enables the students to donate 30cm of hair to the Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Other fundraising events by the students include a cake sale, a raffle and a guess the name of the guide dog puppy competition.

The group is now organising a series of non-uniform days in schools for the end of the academic year to raise further funds.
