LUCY Stanton is hoping to follow in the footsteps of X Factor finalist Luke Friend.

The Princethorpe College pupil Lucy Stanton has booked her place in the grand final of singing competition TeenStar.

Seventeen-year-old Lucy from Southam was not one of the initial five to gain automatic selection into next month’s final at the NEC in the late-teen category.

But with the most amount of text votes after her version of At Last by Etta James was given the wild card. She will sing Adele’s James Bond theme tune Skyfall in the final on July 19.

The winner will get £5,000 and coverage in magazine such as Q and Mojo as well as a slot at The Hop Farm Music Festival. Last year’s winner Luke Friend made it to the latter stages of X Factor.

“I couldn’t believe the support I received. To be honest me and my family have been overwhelmed by it all.

“The votes were pouring in and then when we heard the news I had won I was ecstatic. This means so much to me and my plans for my singing career.”

Lucy will first sit her A Levels in sociology, psychology and photography.

Head Teacher Ed Hester said: “We are absolutely delighted she has deservedly won a place at the final.

“We are all behind Lucy; her incredible voice has given so much pleasure to so many over her years at the college. There will be lots of interest in seeing how her story unfolds in July.”
