Special concert to mark 900th anniversary of St Mary's Church in Warwick

A SPECIAL concert is being staged to celebrate the 900th anniversary of St Mary’s Church in Warwick.

Da Capo Chamber Choir is putting on the concert of music and spoken word, tying together significant events in the history of the church and town with the development of choral music over those 900 years.

The music featured will progress from Plainchant and the early harmonies of Machaud and Pérotin through the glories of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, eventually bringing attendees right up to date with Roderick Williams’ reimagining of Byrd’s Ave Verum.

The actor Michael Maloney, who read at Da Capo’s Armistice Centenary event, will be returning to St Mary’s to bring the narrative to life. Michael’s performance in 2018 was enjoyed and acclaimed by all, and more recently he has starred in many TV hits including The Crown, The Trial of Christine Keeler and Magpie Murders.

Da Capo was founded in Warwick in 2007 under the musical direction of John Adams. Since then it has established a considerable reputation for fine a cappella singing.

Tickets for the concert on July 1 cost £15 and are available from https://dacapochoir.org.uk/ or St Mary’s Church shop.
