Spreading the love in Leamington

Leamington Editorial 5th Feb, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

THEY will be looking to spread the love in Leamington this month.

Town centre retailers and restaurateurs have teamed up to support BID Leamington’s annual Love Leam month – which showcases all the town has to offer – and this year the challenge is to be the kindest town in the country.

Businesses will be spreading goodwill inspired by the random acts of kindness movement, which encourages people to perform selfless acts to brighten others’ days,

To help things along they will be donating surprise prizes, chocolates, flowers and more to give to people at random.

So far around 20 businesses are contributing, including newly opened French bistro Côte, and organic health and beauty store Neal’s Yard which will be offering free facials and drop-in sessions.

The Love Leam month will kick-start on Sunday February 14, when businesses will be painting the town red with suitably coloured window displays and balloons.

Highlights of the Love Leam month include a Goldilocks and the Three Bears pantomime at the Spa Centre, a flower workshop, film showings, wine tastings, and a meet and greet with artist and TV personality Timmy Mallett at Whitewall Galleries.

Stephanie Kerr, executive director of BID Leamington, said: “The idea behind Love Leam is to showcase lots of different aspects of the town and help people discover new things to enjoy in a fun and light-hearted way.

“As we look to build on spreading the goodwill that began at Christmas time, we loved the idea of random acts of kindness and felt it was an ideal theme to help us highlight the best the town has to offer.

“We’re looking forward to a fantastic month of events which will enhance the Leamington experience and make it even more memorable – so visitors can expect lots of surprises as we work to create smiles in the town!”

Regent Court-based Côte is donating three £70 meal vouchers to the random acts of kindness campaign.

The restaurant’s manager Lesley Turner said: “The idea of brightening up people’s days appealed to Côte as it fits with our company ethos where we always strive to exceed our guests’ expectations.

“We are delighted to be joining in on the Love Leam campaign and being so new to the area, we hope it will be a great way for us to build relationships and establish ourselves at the heart of the Leamington community.

“We’ve had a really warm welcome into the town by businesses and residents alike and we are very happy to be able to reciprocate and show support by getting involved.”

A new addition this year is the Love Leam Challenge, which will run from February 14 to March 1. Entrants are invited to join in fun challenges highlighting Leamington’s retail, dining and cultural offering in a bid to win a shopping spree worth £250.

And returning is the Tell Us Why You Love Leam competition which gives entrants the chance to win a red carpet day, offering the winner a luxury day out in the town centre.
