Squash champion recognised with mural

A SQUASH champion who has racketed up the achievements has been recognised with a mural.

Sarah-Jane Parry from Kenilworth is world number seven in the sport and won silver in the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

The 29-year-old was surprised by Warwick University staff who had a mural created in its sports hub detailing her career.

And she hopes it will inspire others to take up squash.

Sarah said: “It was a huge surprise, I had absolutely no idea but it’s awesome and I feel honoured.

“Hopefully this can inspire more people to keep working and follow their sporting path.

“This area is really strong from a sporting perspective – you can see the talent that is coming out of Warwickshire and the midlands.

“I’m proud to be part of the community here and to have my name on the wall in the courts is really special.”

The designers of the mural have left space on the wall for Sarah’s future achievements, which she hopes will include gold at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

She added: “After getting silver on Gold Coast in 2018, getting that gold medal is my main aim for the next few years.

“I want to keep pushing on with my world ranking, looking ahead to world number one, and I’m going to do everything I can to fill the space they have left for me at the end of the timeline.”
