STORM Ciara is currently battering Warwickshire.

The Met Office reports winds of up to 65mph in the county where an amber warning remains in place until 9pm this evening.

Warwickshire Fire & Rescue had a busy morning which was not helped by a car parked on a street corner in Nuneaton which almost prevented a fire engine getting through. Fire chiefs have appealed to drivers to park responsibly.

A fire spokesman said: “Please take extra care on the roads. There are a number of reports of trees falling down and the weather is only getting worse.

“If you can stay indoors and avoid the flying debris, we would highly recommend it.

Among the trees which came down were these in Leamington’s Victoria Park and in Newbold Comyn near the TV transmitter.

Attractions also closed their doors in the interest of safety, including both Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle, and the National Trust cared for Charlecote Park.

Warwick Castle posted on Twitter: “Warwick Castle will be closed today due to the adverse weather conditions and in the interests of the welfare of our guests. If you have pre-booked tickets for today, your tickets will automatically be viable for another day.”
