BREAKING NEWS: Stratford town cente reopens following incident at RSC

A MAJOR incident at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre this afternoon (Saturday) has ended with a man being helped down from the restaurant’s rooftop terrace.

Much of the town centre was brought to a standstill due to the incident which, according to witness reports, saw a man being urged down from the railing outside the RSC Rooftop Restaurant by police.

Road closures were put in place along Waterside and along part of Sheep Street and ambulances were in attendance.

Pedestrians were moved away from the area by police officers and RSC staff.

Waterside was reopened by around 3.40pm as the police cordons were removed.

The RSC said it intended to go ahead with the evening’s performance of Julius Caesar but dining in the restaurant would be cancelled.

Warwickshire Police stated on its Twitter page: “Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare of a man at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Waterside in Stratford. Please avoid the area while we respond to this incident. Thank you for your patience.”
