Strong winds forecast prompts Southam Market cancellation

Leamington Editorial 10th Feb, 2020   0

SOUTHAM Market has been cancelled tomorrow (Tuesday) with 40mph gusts forecast.

A spokesperson from CJ’s Events Warwickshire said: “This decision hasn’t been taken lightly, the gusts forecasted have raised a Health & Safety concern for us. We’ve seen lots of damage across Warwickshire over the past 48 hours with Storm Ciara.

“Whilst there is no Weather Warning currently in place, the Met Office have forecasted gusts reaching up to 40mph overnight and during tomorrow. This totally exceeds the maximum safety limit for our market stalls.

“We take safety very seriously. We will not put life at risk to our traders, staff or visitors. We know many traders and visitors will be upset by this decision, but hope you can understand safety must take priority. No traders will be attendance at tomorrows market.”
